MIME and uuencode are standards for transferring attachments (also called compound
documents).
MIME is an Internet standard which allows transfer of binary files (word-processing
documents, spreadsheets, images, sounds, executables...) between any compliant mail
systems. MIME includes support for international character sets, tagging each part of a
message with the character set it is written in, and providing 7-bit encoding of 8-bit
character sets.
It is advised to use MIME as the default protocol in your mail system.
